Piața Victoriei este una dintre piețele centrale a Timișoarei. La polii opuși ai pieței se regăsesc Opera Națională Română și Catedrala Mitropolitană. Legătura dintre cele două se faci prin cele două promenade “Corso”, pe partea dreaptă de la Operă spre Catedrală, în care înalta societate, elita și oamenii importanți își petreceau timpul pe terasele frumoase, și promenada ce poartă numele de “Surogat“, pe care o parcurgeau oamenii de rând, locuitorii orașului fără statut înalt în societate. În Piața Victoriei se află statuia Lupoaicei, ce reprezintă legenda întemeierii Romei, statuie făcută cadou Timișoarei de către municipalitatea orașului Roma, ca un simbol al latinității care unește popoarele român și italian. Tot în această piață se află și renumita fântână cu pești, construită în 1957 și considerată locul de întâlnire preferat de generații întregi de timișoreni.
The Victory Square is one of the central squares of Timisoara. At opposites poles of the square, there are the Romanian National Opera and the Metropolitan Cathedral. The link between the two is made through the two promenades „Corso”, on the right side from the Opera to the Cathedral, in which the high society, the elite and the important people were spending time on the beautiful terraces, and the promenade which bears the name „Surogat”, in which ordinary people were passing through, the people living in the city without high status in society. In the Victory Square, there’s a statue of The Wolf, that represents the legend of the founding of Rome, statue got as a gift to Timisoara, by the city of Rome, as a symbol of latinity that unites the Romanian and Italian nations. In this square you can also find the well-known fountain with fish, built in 1957 and considered a meeting spot, favoured by many generations of people from Timisoara.
